TEACHING TIME
THE FEAR OF THE LORD – THE CURE FOR LACK

One of the greatest mistakes people make is to pursue prosperity while neglecting the God who gives the power to prosper.

Many want blessings but do not want the discipline of obedience. They desire divine provision but ignore divine instructions. They want God's promises without embracing God's principles.

Today's teaching, we are examining a powerful spiritual principle, that a lot of Christians ignore.  The fear of the Lord.

Psalm 34:9–10 says:

"O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him." (KJV)
Whenever I read this scripture , I do take a log breath. How I wish believers can understand this and plug ourselves into it, lack would have had no place amongst us.

The fear of the Lord is not being terrified of God as though He were an enemy. It is having deep reverence for Him, honouring His authority, respecting His Word and choosing to please Him above pleasing people.

It is a lifestyle of godly consciousness.

When God becomes your priority, your decisions, relationships, attitudes and pursuits begin to reflect His values.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FEAR THE LORD?

The fear of the Lord means:

* Recognising God's supremacy and authority.

* Hating what God calls evil.

* Obeying His Word even when it is not convenient

* Refusing to compromise your convictions for temporary gains.

* Honouring God in private as much as you do in public.

* Living with the consciousness that your life belongs to Him.

Proverbs 9:10 says:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom..."

Notice that Scripture does not say the fear of money, connections, education or influence is the beginning of wisdom.

It is the fear of the Lord!

You can be highly educated and still lack divine wisdom. You can have money and still make destructive decisions.

But when you walk in the fear of God, you begin to approach life with divine wisdom and understanding.

HOW DOES THE FEAR OF THE  LORD CURE LACK?

This I know is a question in your heart as you are reading this piece

Psalm 34:10 tells us that those who seek the Lord will not lack any good thing.

This does not mean that as a believer you will never experience difficult seasons. Rather, it assures us as God's children  of God's faithfulness, care and provision.

Consider these dimensions:

A. It delivers you from destructive decisions.

Many people experience avoidable losses because of greed, dishonesty, impatience and poor decisions.

The fear of God teaches you to reject shortcuts and choose integrity.

B. It positions you for divine wisdom.

Sometimes, what you need is not just money but the wisdom to manage what you already have.

Godly wisdom can preserve resources, relationships, opportunities and destinies.

C. It teaches contentment and godly priorities.

A person who fears God does not have to destroy their character to acquire wealth.

You learn to distinguish between legitimate needs, unnecessary desires and destructive pursuits.

D. It inspires faithful stewardship.

When you recognise that everything belongs to God, you become more responsible with your time, finances, gifts, relationships and opportunities.

E. It establishes a life of divine direction.

God's instructions protect us from paths that appear attractive but eventually lead to destruction.

THE FEAR OF THE LORD MUST BE VISIBLE IN YOUR DAILY LIFE.

It is not enough to say, "I fear God."

Your lifestyle must demonstrate it.

* Do you tell the truth when lying would benefit you?

* Do you remain faithful when nobody is watching?

* Do you honour your marriage covenant?

* Do you treat your employees fairly?

* Do you pay people what you owe?

* Do you conduct your business with integrity?

* Do you honour God with your resources?

* Do you obey His Word even when it costs you something?

The fear of the Lord is demonstrated through choices, not merely declarations.

5 BENEFITS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

* Wisdom: Proverbs 9:10.

* Long life: Proverbs 10:27.

* Confidence and security: Proverbs 14:26.

* Freedom from destructive evil: Proverbs 16:6.

* Provision and satisfaction: Psalm 34:9–10.

What a wonderful inheritance!

The fear of God is not a limitation; it is a foundation for purposeful and fruitful living.

APPLICATION...  Examine Yourself

Take a moment today and examine your life.

Ask yourself:

* Is God truly first in my decisions?

* Are there areas where I have compromised my convictions?

* Am I pursuing material blessings at the expense of my relationship with God?

* Do I manage my resources with wisdom?

* Does my lifestyle reflect reverence for God?
